Sadie Dutton

Sadie Dutton, project owner, has been through some struggles of her own.

In July 2021, Sadie was on summer break. She was having a pain in her rib, but didn't think much of it due to her status as a black belt in MMA. Things took a turn for the worst when a CAT scan showed a large mass in her chest wall.

At the hospital, a biopsy was done, and it turned out to be a large Ewing's Sarcoma tumor in her right chest wall. Before any of, and even during the first couple of months, she was agnostic and even atheist.

But one day, something changed. During a horrible spot of sickness in treatment, she called onto whatever God there was, and the most merciful LORD Jesus Christ answered. After a rough year of treatment, she was declared cancer free in 2022.

During the next few months, she researched Christianity and read the Bible. She wanted to know so much more!

But unfortunately, a year later in 2023, she was diagnosed with chemotherapy induced acute myeloid leukemia (AML). She underwent two harsh months in the hospital doing chemo before going in for a bone marrow transplant.

When recovering from her bone marrow transplant, which by the mercy of God, was successful, she started looking into the rich and ancient traditions of the church. That's when she discovered the tradition of veiling.

She was intrigued, and began to do more research. Finally, she found the Eastern Orthodox church. Their true, ancient, rich, beautiful traditions and theology never left her mind for weeks before she finally attended her first divine liturgy.

As of now, Sadie is a Greek Orthodox catechumen and preparing to be baptized.
